Mul-T-Lock

Looking back at the many locks and keys over the years makes one thing clear: home security has vastly improved, and is still continuing to do so to this very day.

You can see it in the way locks have grown to be more sophisticated, and far more reliable as a result. Antique keys were once able to circumvent numerous locks with astounding regularity due to the crude mechanisms of said locks, but these keys have no hope of bypassing the security of modern day locks.

Also, just recently, some keys were capable of opening locks other than their own, due to limited schematics and simplistic locking systems. That problem is still being addressed, but the solutions are already apparent in the sale and distribution of high security locks. These locks have unique and intricate locking mechanisms that are virtually impossible to be disengaged by devices other than their corresponding keys.

However, as security locks and devices evolved, so too did the means of getting past them. Lock picking, for instance, managed to shed its notorious label as more and more came to accept it, and worse, practice it. It's become something more akin to a sport or pastime than a criminal pursuit. Of course, not all lock pickers use their talents to their advantage, but there will always be those who try.

Another popular way of bypassing security is key duplication. While key duplication is intended to make things easier for key owners with a penchant for losing their keys, and more convenient for those who want to give trusted friends and family members access to their home and valuables, key copying services can also be used by criminals to take what isn't theirs.

This is an even bigger security threat than crude locking mechanisms and lock picking, since a criminal with a duplicate key will still have access to his victim's home or belongings even after the crime is committed. And since the victim isn't aware of this, there's little chance that he or she will change the lock.

Fortunately, as further testament to the ongoing evolution of home security, leading lock firms like Mul-T-Lock have found a way to solve this problem. The solution? Specialized duplication methods which require a code and full authorization from the company that designed the key.

Mul-T-Lock and other esteemed companies only present this code to the key's rightful owner, and as such, only they can get permission from the company to have it duplicated. And since only the company who made these keys have the means to duplicate them, key owners can have the assurance that they won't fall victim to a key duplication scheme anytime soon.

This just goes to show that though both home security and security circumvention have made great strides over the years, the former has still managed to stay one step ahead.
